Possagno (10 Km.) it is situated at the foot of Mount Pallone and stands at over 250m. h.o.s.l (eight over sea level) Possagno, though being a small town of about 2,000 inhabitants, is famous for having given birth to the neoclassical master Antonio Canova, who was born here in 1757. A Possagno, at the wish of his brother-in-law, His Magnificent Eminence Bishop Giovanni Battista Sartori Canova, a Museum and Gipsoteque were born, collecting the original chalk templates for Canova’s sculptures, from the artist’s Roman studio. Nearby you can also visit the birth home, the Temple, the parish church of Possagno, wanted and entirely funded by Antonio Canova and later become the place of his burial.
